We Are to Involved in Things That Do Not Matter

"We are to involved in materialistic thing's, and they don't satisfy us. The loving relationships we have, the universe around us, we take these things for granted." This is a meaningful quote given by Morrie on page 84 of Tuesdays With Morrie. In this quote Morrie is trying to say that everyday we go through life obsessed with things that realistically do not matter, and then we completely ignore the things that are given to us, the things that everyone in the world gets for free. After this quote Morrie explains to Mitch about appreciating a window. He explains this by saying that there is a window there that he looks through at anytime of the day and sees the weather, seasons, a tree, and wildlife all for no cost at all. Morrie understands the meaning of this window because he is dying. He understands that he does not have much time left and that he can no longer even function for himself, such as not being able to go outside. Before Morrie was dying he didn't think going outside was a privilege, or something someday that he will no longer be able to do, but now that he is he appreciates the simple things more. He appreciates love, nature, friends more then he ever has before because he now fully realizes that they will not be there forever. Appreciating the simple things in life is something that everyone needs to do more everyday. Could you imagine how much happier you would be if you just loved a little more every singe day? If you just sat under a tree a listened to the sounds of nature a few times a week, you would realize that you overvalue things like living in a big house or driving the nicest car and that you do not appreciate the things that the world gives to you for free.

Do What the Buddhists Do

"Do what the buddhists do.  Every day, have a little bird on your shoulder that asks, "Is today the day?  Am I ready?  Am I doing the all I need to do?  Am I the person I want to be?"  This is a deep, meaningful quote.  If you answer yes to those questions, then you are probably living an enjoyable life, and you are doing everything you need or want to do.  If you are answering no to those questions, then you are doing something wrong, and you need to change your attitude or what you are doing.  Because if today is the day you're going to die, then you would want to leave with an enjoyable lifetime, not a boring regretful one.  Also, if you do ask these questions, you may do things that are out of the ordinary for you, rather than living day by day as a robot, doing the same things and not really having fun and enjoying yourself.  This question really does have a deeper meaning, and makes you question more things that are around you.

Everyone is Sleepwalking

"Most of us all walk around as if we're sleepwalking.  We really don't experience the world fully, because we're half asleep, doing things we automatically think we have to do."  A lot of people put work as the highest priority, higher than everything.  Yes, work is extremely important, and if you don't work, then you can't get the money to pay bills, put food on the table, etc.  Even though work is extremely important, family is more important.  Since so many people put work as their number one priority, all they do is work.  They don't enjoy themselves, or go on vacation, spend time with family, etc.  These people are the ones who are sleepwalking.  All they are doing is the work aspect of life.  There are many more aspects to life, such as exercising, family, relaxing, etc.  Many people are also forced to do things that they don't want or need to do.  Such things include going to places where other people are, just so that you can make them happy.

No One Believes That They are Going to Die

"Everyone knows they're going to die, but nobody believes it".  This quote was given by Morrie on page 80 in Tuesdays With Morrie. Whenever I see this quote I think to myself that it is completely true. Everyone looks at their life and they know that one day it will come to an end but they never think about what it will be like to be dead and never able to come back. Most people do this because they do not truly believe that they will eventually die. They know that death will eventually come because it is inevitable but they never truly think of all the regrets that they will have when they die and all the times where the said no to something that they could of had fun doing. Because of this reason, most people in the world die unsatisfied. Most people are not happy about the grudge's that they held their entire life and never had the chance to forgive the one's that they have never forgiven.  Also many people say no to once in a lifetime opportunities because they have to do something that may not want to do because they feel that they have to do. They actually don't have to do anything they do not want to do just because they think its best. You should always take advantage of all the times where you can do something that you can enjoy.
